Finance Intern

Trinity Capital Inc. (Nasdaq: TRIN) is an international alternative asset manager that seeks to deliver consistent returns for investors through access to private credit markets. We are looking for an experienced professional to join our world-class team as the Assistant Controller – Investment Portfolio in Phoenix, Arizona. This is an exciting opportunity to gain exposure to Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis and Portfolio Valuation within our Finance operations.

Job Description

The Finance Internship offers hands-on experience across three key financial functions of the Trinity Capital Finance Department: Financial Accounting & Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Investment Valuation. The Intern will develop a broad understanding of corporate accounting operations, financial analytical techniques, and valuation methodologies.

To be successful as a Finance Intern, you should have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong financial analysis skills including strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and perform under pressure.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Assist in day-to-day accounting and loan servicing.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly closing procedures, GAAP financial statements, and the preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Perform account reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Perform other accounting duties as required or assigned.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Compile and analyze monthly financial and portfolio data for financial and operating models.
  • Gather, analyze, and facilitate distribution of peer key performance indicators (KPIs) and other financial metrics.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to update rolling cash forecast and liquidity dashboards.

Investment Valuation

  • Analyze and apply valuation model inputs that include capitalization structures, historical and forecasted financial performance, and trend analysis.

Experience

  • Upperclassman in Finance or Accounting Major
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Knowledge of financial statement production, including balance sheet; income statement; and general ledger
  • Financial analysis skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting or equivalent preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, talk, utilize a computer, and read computer screens for extended periods of time
  • Maintain consistent, repetitive motion for data entry (typing/clicking)
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
